The Colombia Pavilion for the Santa Cruz International Book Fair reimagined ephemeral architecture as an immersive cultural landscape inspired by the Amazon rainforest shared between Colombia and Bolivia. Conceived as both an exhibition space and a symbolic environment, the pavilion explored how temporary architecture can create emotional connections through spatial experience, storytelling, and sustainable design.
The architectural concept was inspired by the idea of “planting” a forest within the fairgrounds. A series of branching structural columns formed a canopy-like spatial composition that evoked the atmosphere of the jungle while creating spaces for gathering, reading, conversation, and cultural exchange. The pavilion combined graphic exhibitions, books, and textured surfaces to create a dynamic and interactive visitor experience.
Sustainability was central to the project strategy. After the fair concluded, the pavilion elements were relocated and adapted as furniture and playful installations for a children’s community library in Santa Cruz, extending the life cycle of the materials while promoting reading and learning in an underserved neighborhood.
The project demonstrates how temporary cultural architecture can generate long-term social and environmental impact.
